Hello Team,

How can we implement a custom cache refresh button at the dashboard level in Helical Insight to refresh cached report data while keeping &mode=dashboard, without switching to &mode=open? Is it possible to trigger cache refresh using the refresh=true URL parameter through dashboard-level HTML/CSS/JavaScript, and what alternative options are available for configuring automatic cache refresh using report-level cache expiry settings? We have integrated the built reports and dashboards from Helical Insight into our product and used mode=dashboard, hence the cache refresh button is not visible. Using version 7.0

Hello Snow,

Yes, Helical Insight allows you to refresh the dashboard cache while keeping the dashboard in &mode=dashboard. You do not need to switch to &mode=open.

There are two approaches to achieve this:

  1. Custom Cache Refresh Button

You can append the refresh=true parameter to the dashboard URL to trigger a cache refresh.

For example, the existing dashboard URL:

https://…/efwdd&mode=dashboard

Modified URL:

https://…/efwdd&mode=dashboard&refresh=true

You can create a custom Refresh Cache button using the dashboard-level HTML/CSS/JavaScript functionality.

On clicking the button, trigger the dashboard URL with refresh=true appended to it. This requests the dashboard with the cache refresh parameter instead of performing a normal browser reload.

This approach allows you to retain &mode=dashboard without switching to &mode=open.

  1. Automatic Cache Refresh Using Cache Expiry

Alternatively, you can configure the cache refresh/expiry interval at the individual report level.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open the individual report in the designer.
  2. Navigate to Properties → Cache.
  3. Configure the required cache interval.
  4. Save the report.

Once the configured cache interval expires, the cached report data is refreshed from the database when the report is accessed. This configuration also applies when the report is used within a dashboard.
